BACKGROUND
Mojabet is Moja Group’s online betting and gaming brand. Unlike many global betting brands that operate in Africa, Mojabet is built as a pan-African brand from the ground up. The company targets countries such as Senegal, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Angola, Nigeria, and Ghana, and has strong expansion ambitions.
Mojabet sportsbook covers major sports with competitive odds, while its online casino features a wide selection of slots, tables, and live dealer games. In some markets, Mojabet also provides lottery and e-sports betting.
Before our partnership, the company had issues with an outdated platform that didn’t fit the African markets, causing performance lags, limited scalability, and slow development cycles. The company also faced challenges integrating local payment methods and managing fraud without real-time risk assessment. In short, the company couldn’t move forward despite its big ambitions.
Pain points
Mojabet mainly suffered because past European products were not tailored to African markets. The legacy platform was a one-size-fits-all solution with an outdated tech stack. For example, the average African player has a low-end Android with a slow processor, a low-resolution screen, and limited mobile data access. The legacy platform was too heavy, leading to clunky UX and poor mobile adaptation.
The company operates in a patchwork of 54 unique markets with different regulations, languages, and infrastructure. The legacy platform was not built to handle such diversity or to scale with a growing player base.
Things didn’t stop there.
Players dropped off because of the load time
Mojabet’s website load times were over 10 seconds in some cases. If you’re serious about winning, that speed won’t get you there.
Delivery delays affected revenue expectations
Updates took far too long, often involving protracted development cycles and ticket queues for even minor changes. Launching a full sportsbook/casino platform or major feature could typically take around six months, making time-to-market a problem.
Navigation and onboarding were confusing for newcomers
The platform’s multi-page structure and unintuitive layout made it difficult to quickly understand how to place bets or navigate between features like the bet builder or parlay bets. Players were confused during the registration or first deposit flow, which hindered the conversion rate as Mojabet entered new markets.
Smooth mobile payments were a challenge
Mojabet’s CEO noted that they needed a customized payment solution for Africa because players use their phones as wallets and require instant deposits/withdrawals via mobile money services like MOMO. The old setup didn’t natively support all the local payment integrations or take too long to integrate each one.
Growth was stalled — not for lack of vision, but because something crucial was missing.

From day one, Mojabet made its expectations clear. They wanted lightning-fast performance, even on low-end devices. They needed a platform that could scale with them and a provider who understood the nuances of regulated African markets.
But it wasn’t just about speed. Mojabet was looking for ways to cut operational overhead, simplify content management, and boost conversions. They needed to prevent drop-offs and revenue loss.
Above all, they were searching for a partner, not just a provider. Someone who could listen, adapt, and build the sportsbook that works for Africa, not just in it.
SUGGESTED APPROACH
Mojabet needed a turnkey sportsbook and online casino platform with an integrated full spectrum of back-end and front-end solutions. Our Hyper Turnkey already met this request, but we needed more than just localization here.
The suggested solution was to build a custom lightweight front-end designed to load quickly on Africa’s mobile devices and consume less bandwidth as an important element in Africa’s internet network providers. Such optimization included streamlined code, adaptive image loading, and caching—all aimed at player convenience.

Essentially, GR8 Tech provided the entire software infrastructure for operations. Hyper Turnkey encompasses a betting engine, a casino suite, a payment gateway, CRM, a content management system, player account management with seamless wallet, KYC and verification, a unified back-office interface, business intelligence dashboards, and risk & anti-fraud tools.

The challenges were mainly related to the speed of development, automation of localization, integration, and testing of Mojabet’s SMS and payment providers. Extra development was needed to comply with Angola’s regulations.
We truly value our collaboration, especially the success of integrations like MoMo and Afitech. However, recent projects in Angola and Nigeria revealed some challenges, particularly in internal coordination, testing, and QA before UAT. By strengthening alignment and addressing issues earlier in development, we believe we can achieve even greater consistency and success in future projects.
